Invest in Your Health and Sex, Lies & Identity

Money spent proactively on your health delivers far better returns than money spent reactively on treating illness and disease. When healthy choices seem “too expensive,” consider the long-term costs of health-sapping alternatives.

Day 81 of 101 days of blogging.

Two things for today:

  1. Investing in Your Health (the Revolutionary Act topic at hand)
  2. Sex, Lies & Identity

I’m excited for both!

Investing in Your Health

Not too long ago, I read a stat that said people would rather go without health insurance than without their cell phones. In other words, we’ll pay our monthly cell phone bill but not health insurance.

We also spend ridiculous amounts on prescription drugs each year.

And, it is a known fact that the weight-loss industry has transformed into a “more than $62-billion-a-year business, compared with about $38 billion 10 years ago, estimates Market Data.” (source)

We sure are investing.

But the hard truth is that we are investing in all the wrong places.

We value luxury over health. We value reactive vs. proactive. We value the convenience of masking symptoms vs. addressing the root problem. We value immediate results vs. long-term transformations.

Dr. Oz wrote “Five Pieces of Advice I’ll be Giving in 2022” in the October, 2012 issue of O Magazine. In his opening paragraph he stated, ‘”Most patients bring me a list of their medications; Danielle had brought me the contents of her entire medicine cabinet – as well as binders full of meticulously organized medical records and the food labels from everything she’d eating during the last week. “I want you to have as much information as possible so you can figure out how to help me get better, she said.”‘

If you really want to help yourself, invest in yourself in the proper way. Spend your time and money in a way that will help make lasting changes; changes derived from the ROOT of your health concerns.

This is the number one reason that I am confident in the prices I charge for my services.  Quite honestly, I don’t think I charge enough. Spending a little up front to become educated and to understand yourself better will cost you hundreds, if not thousands, less during the years to come.

This I can promise you. (<–I live it daily.)

Sex, Lies & Identity

I told you on Sunday that a bikini competition is no longer in my future.

Earlier that day, our Pastor preached on “Sex, Lies & Identity.” Now again, I’m not here to be the bible for you all (I’m just a food detective!), but I make it very clear that many things I do in my life are done so because of my faith and what I believe He wants for my life; in giving, doing and being for other people.

I realized that morning a lot about self worth; what it really means to me.

{I need you to all understand, in case there are women out there who do do these competitions, that I find them fascinating still. I 100% respect and support any woman who is gutsy enough to do them.}

I can work extremely hard in the gym. Trust me, this is not a way for me to get out of that. If you want proof, just call up my gym owner and ask him about my gym work ethic. Continuing to push my body to the limits and working out hard is perfectly fine. Even taking my weekly progress pictures is okay.

But if I’m to be honest, for me and for my identity, I do not believe that in order to prove my self worth physically I need to show scantily clad pictures here or strut my very best strut in a bikini on stage. As a confident, strong Christian woman, I feel those “scenes” are truly best served internally – kept private – for not the world, but only for myself and for Ryan.

I am happy to make this decision.

And remember gutsies:

Tomorrow is day 82. Topic:

Love your guts,
